This website is operated by Joe Shepherd, a freelance designer based in the UK. This policy explains what information I collect when you visit the site or contact me, and how I use it.

When you contact me
If you send an enquiry through the contact form, I collect the details you provide, such as your name, email address and message. I use them to read your enquiry, respond to you and discuss any work you have asked about. Please avoid including sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your enquiry.
My lawful basis for handling an initial enquiry is legitimate interests: I need to receive and respond to messages about my services. If our discussion leads to work together, I may also need to use your details to take steps towards a contract or perform that contract.
I keep enquiries for 30 days, unless I need to keep a particular conversation longer for an ongoing project, a legal obligation or a dispute. I do not add you to a marketing mailing list just because you contacted me.
Enquires are stored in the database and email.
Website analytics
I use Graviwork Analytics to understand which pages people view and which websites refer visitors to mine. It stores daily totals by page and referring website domain. It does not set analytics cookies, store visitors’ IP addresses, or create persistent visitor identifiers. I use these figures to understand and improve the website, not to follow individual visitors.
The lawful basis for any personal information involved in this processing is legitimate interests in understanding and improving my website. The analytics totals are kept for 90 days.
You can object to this analytics collection on your current browser using the control below. Choosing to opt out saves only your opt-out preference in that browser’s local storage. You can use the same control to turn analytics back on. Clearing your browser’s site data may remove the preference.
The analytics plugin can also respect your browser’s Do Not Track setting when that option is enabled on this website.
Graviwork Analytics also counts movements between pages on this website, such as how many times visitors move from a case study to the contact page. These are stored as daily totals for each pair of pages. I use them to understand and improve how the website works. The plugin does not store an individual visitor’s journey or link these movements to a visitor identifier. The analytics opt-out described above applies to these counts too.
Hosting and service providers
My website is hosted by Zume, a trading name of Alpha Internet Limited, registered in England and Wales under company number 11162310. Zume provides the infrastructure needed to deliver and maintain the website. Its hosting systems may process technical information, including IP addresses in server or security logs, separately from Graviwork Analytics.
I use Cloudflare Turnstile on my contact form to help distinguish genuine enquiries from automated spam. To perform that check, Cloudflare may process technical signals such as your IP address, browser information and connection characteristics. Cloudflare does not receive the message you type into the contact form through Turnstile. You can read more in Cloudflare’s Turnstile Privacy Addendum.
I do not sell your personal information. I share it with service providers only where needed to run the website, handle enquiries or meet a legal obligation.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you can ask for access to your personal information, correction or deletion of it, or restriction of its use. You can also object to processing based on legitimate interests. To make a request, email hello@joeshepherd.co.uk.
If you are unhappy with how I handle your information, please contact me first so I can look into it. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy if the website or the way I handle information changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
